Berimbau

Back from Holiday mode and with lots of goodies for you to be introduced to!
Sometimes we moan about the internet stopping people using their brains and looking in books, but today we at Brook Green were grateful for Google!
This donation kept us confused for the whole day and lead to this google search
"Strange wood/string sculpture possible instrument". However it somehow worked and we can now tell you that this awesome donation is a Berimbau!

A Berimbau is a muscial bow from Brazil, consisting of a large wooden bow with a single metal string. It is thought to have evolved from a one-stringed instrument brought to Brazil from Angola in the 19th century. It is used primarily to accompany the martial art known as capoeira.

It is not complete as looking at pictures and videos and suchlike online, we are missing the "Baqueta: Small stick struck against the arame to produce the sound.", the "Caxixí: Small rattle that optionally accompanies the baqueta in the same hand.", and the "Pedra or Dobrão: Small stone or coin pressed against the arame to change the tone of the berimbau."
(Quotes from Wikipedia)

Ours is for sale at £22
and is 60 inches (150cms) tall.

Sweet martial art music, so of course we have a sample for you!

Who says we don't educate you here in our shop!?

Magnolia Dinner

Another non Brook Green post!
I am in Holiday mode (so you will have a week off from my wittering) and so throwing caution the wind and going out on a limb and relishing my maverick status by posting about an event instead of stock. Woah!

But the shop will be open and is full to the brim of pretty, lovely and amazing things!

Trinity is holding a Magnolia Dinner and Quiz at The Mall Galleries on 21 November.
The evening starts at 6.45pm and is a chance for family, friends and Trinity supporters to remember loved ones, and to support the vital work that Trinity’s nurses provide to over 2,000 Londoners each year.

The evening will be hosted by our patron Huw Edwards (yes! him of the BBC News!) and celebrity guests and will include a 3 course gourmet dinner and fine wines. Tables are £1,500 for a table of 10 or pairs of tickets can be bought for £300. Seating is limited so book now to avoid disappointment! For more information call 020 7787 1022

Thanking you.

Ladies Celine Shirt

Not everything we get donated can be sold. Anything which is dirty, ripped, broken, etc is disposed of - In 'Rag' for clothes, books and shoes (which we still get money for) and in the recycling or rubbish for things we cannot rag - so we only put out the best stuff for sale.

However, every now and again we still put out things with imperfections, either because it is an easy fix say a button missing for example, or because it is still beautiful and functional or because we like it so much and think we can still get money for it - Sold As Seen. (But we do point out the imperfections - no dodgy sales here thank you very much!) And we price with the imperfections in mind.

This shirt is one of those cases.
Céline is a French luxury house founded in 1945 by Céline Vipiana. It started life making made to measure childrens shoes before branching out into Womanswear via shoes and accessories. The ready to wear line debuted in 1960s with classic lines and timeless styles.

The green and cream colour combination with stripes on the 100% cotton fabric is perfect for autumn.
As I mentioned this is not perfect, and as you can see from the photograph it has a hole by the shoulder.

(Although if this was my size and I had it I would just cover it up with a brooch!)
For sale as the 'as seen' price of £25.
And due to the pattern, the hole is hardly seen when worn....
Size 8 (eur 36)

Mens Vintage YSL Mac

Finally, we have another man blog and it is for a beautiful Vintage (1980s) Macintosh.

This Yves Saint Laurent (YSL) Mac is in a lush khaki green, with no colour fade anywhere.
Smart and yet practical, this size 38 (Medium) coat needs to be bought and loved!

From the buttons and belt to the YSL lining around the arm holes and cuffs it is in pretty much excellent condition.

Dated to the 1980s, this could be yours for £150.

The Mackintosh (or Mac/Mack) is a waterproof coat, first sold in 1824, made out of a rubberised fabric.

Woah there Cowboy!

Now to be film cowboy you need - Check shirt. Jeans. Stetson hat. And most importantly Cowboy boots. We always have jeans and check shirts in stock, but Stetsons are harder to come by.
Cowboy boots however, as you can probably guess, we have had a pair donated!

These tan colour boots are from R. Soles (totally not being rude, that is the name of the brand....Honest guv) and have been designed by Judy Rothchild

Leather with some exquisite stitch work in 3 colour threads to produce this leaf like pattern.
Wooden heel, and rubber sole. Pointed toe.
£60
Size 40 (UK 7)

We think everyone should have some cowboy boots in their wardrobe. Not just because we want you to buy these, but because they can be dressed up or dressed down, and we can tell you exactly how when you pop in store.

Personally, I think cowboy boots with tea dresses or simple shift dresses which sit just above the knee gives them a funky edge, and keeps your feet warm in the cold September weather!
(And of course we have many dresses in store for your viewing and buying pleasure!)
Sweater dress, bright tights and your cowboy boots is also a winter winner. Toasty warm.
